"I like pigs"

Elena Geiko: Winston Churchill once said: “I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.” What did he mean by that in your opinion? To what extent do you share his point of view?

qwe55529: perhaps he thought so because he found many similarities between himself and pigs. I can not agree or disagree with him because I do not know much about the peculiarities of behavior of pigs

Michael: I disagree with this point of view. In my opinion, all animals feel equal with people. And people never look up to animals, but often look down on them.

qaz111: I think, that there are too many different animals on our planet and not only pigs treat us as equals. But in common, I think, that only Churchill asked himself so strange question and no one, except him, thought on this topic.

nuxma: Winston Churchill was a sophisticated politician, so I don't think this phrase should be interpreted literally. Perhaps it was said about people relations or even diplomatic relations and he meant he likes equal partner or enemy. But why pigs? qwe55529 пишет: he found many similarities between himself and pigs did you mean his appearance?

grape: well, on the one hand this statement can be regarded as logical and to some extent realistic, but on the other hand I consider it a bit cynical. Churchill actually speaks about human's nature, we all have something common with cats and dogs and even pigs but not everyone should be placed on the same footing as pigs)) That's why I partly agree with his point of view)

Binkel: Frankly speaking, I find it hard to imagine a pig thinking of something or feeling some emotions. I believe a pig could feel cold or warm, hungry or full but not happy, sad or 'equal' to somebody. I might too materialistic, though.
