What the teacher is...

Director : Some people would insist that What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches. What would you say to that?

nuxma: Maybe it depends on who students are, for children the teacher's personality is more important because they learn not only the subject but many other things, e.g. to be attentive, to cope with problems etc. Adults usually have a certain purpose, so the subject is their first priority. Although I prefer the teacher to be an interesting person than an excellent explainer.

Jane RR): Well, that actually sounds reasonable but I probably wouldn't pay for a course in some subject I don't need even if the trainer was absolutely fantastic... I might be too economical, though:)

Elena Geiko: I really need to love the personality of a teacher strongly to be willing to learn anything from this person, even what seems to be useless or unnecessary for me. If studying the subject or mastering the skill is my priority, I'll try to focus on the process, not the person who teaches. If I am taking a course for pleasure, I will pay more attention to what the teacher is.

Nina_Aleksandrovna: I cannot but agree that personality of a teacher, his or her moral qualities matter a great deal, but still professionalism is an integral part of a personality. so i would say the first part of the saying cannot exist without the other. and everything counts when evaluating teaching profession!
