Spam vs Advertising

Michael Pankov: Modern life is full of different kinds of information. How to recognize that out of all this we really need? Where the Spam and where the information is? I'm not just talking about e-mail messages, but the information in general. An example from my life: Once a year I get calls from 4! insurance companies with an offer to insure car. They somehow found out the date of my car insurance and my phone number... Is it a Spam? I think yes. I didn't ask them about that "service". Anyway it is a good reminder So what is Spam for you and how to deal with it?

nuxma: For me spam is information which bothers and irritates me, when I have to do something with it. For instance e-mail messages with adverts are rather funny (spammers must be creative to pass the spam filters) and I can remove them easily. But text messages annoy me much more. Open the bag, pull out the phone, unlock it, open the message and what for? - to see another ad! And delete it using a very inconvenient phone menu! However, I'm grateful for free classified ad papers, they are so useful for household purposes. [img src=/gif/smk/sm12.gif]

Elena Geiko: On the one hand, I don't appreciate the information which I haven't asked for because I hate being imposed on. On the other hand, I sometimes realise I would have no other chance to learn about real bargains but from the offers sent to me. People may be unaware of what they need to buy until they are hinted about that. However, if I was already extremely loyal to one company, I would probably ignore the offers sent by their competitors.

Jane RR): As for me, I don't mind getting mew information by e-mail because I always have a chance to delete it if Idon't like it. It doesn't 'invade my privacy' or irritate me while phone calls made by different promoters are quite annoying as answering them takes my personal time. However, the word 'spam' is traditionally used as a name for advertising mail. Why?
